BSoD/ Introduction to the Game Engine
The class will be structured as a small lab and broken up into several small working units. All students will be expected to collaborate and share equally in the projects undertaken by their group. To this end part of your grade will be evaluated by other students in your group:) Weekly Outline:Week 1, Sept 27: Review procedures and discuss group dynamics. Intro to basic ideas, Computational Architecture, Locative Media, Blender, Python and Bluetooth. Who has bluetooth devices and adapters? Authenticate email address for reading 1. Week 2, Oct 4: Discuss readings. Begin thinking about possible spaces to work with. Indoor or outdoor? What are the implications of each? Intro to Blender 3D and basic interface instruction. Begin forming working groups and developing ideas for the big project. Hand out reading 2 for the following week. Week 3, Oct 11: Discuss readings. Present project proposals, time lines and duty rosters. Further Blender instruction including modeling. Intro to Python -its pretty simple as far as languages go. Week 4, Oct 25: Prep for Mid Term. You will help determine the direction of this week. What do you need to explore to progress with your projects? We may have additional readings this week. We will continue to modeling work with Blender. Students will present progress on the group projects. Week 5, Nov 1: Introduction to the Blender Game Engine. Group meeting and work time will occur with an eye toward the following week's midterm evaluations. Week 6, Nov 8: Present midterm projects with Class Critique. Students will be evaluated based upon the progress made toward completion of the group project time line and individual responsibilities met. Week 7, Nov 15 & Week 8, Nov 22:. Thanksgiving Begin Planning for Final project. After the midterm you may have discovered that your project has moved in a different direction than your original proposal calls for. Make sure you reconcile your time line and duty roster. Follow up on the Blender Game Engine and look at very simple Python scripting interface. Week 9, Dec 6: Present projects to class for any last suggestions before final presentation. Its a small presentation, more of a progress report to keep you on your toes. Python, Bluetooth, CGI and Blender integration day! Week 10, Dec 13: Have you really read this far down? Class work time. Your projects should largely be finished at this point. I'll be available to help solve problems, so take advantage of my art making experience. Week 11, Final week: Present Final project and web site documentation. Class Critique, Resolution. |
